On July 11, 1952, KFDX Television Co. – a consortium led by KFDX (AM 980) owner and KFDX-FM (100.1 FM) founder Ben F. Daugherty, who was also president and general manager of both stations – filed a competing application for the same allocation. The FCC ultimately chose Texoma Broadcasting's application on October 23, 1953, and granted KFDX Television a permit to construct a television station on VHF channel 3 (which was assigned to Lawton), which signed on as KSWO-TV on February 28, 1954.
