WCSC-TV was the first station in Charleston to broadcast in color. The station was also the first in the area to air a local news program, "The NewsCenter," which premiered in 1967. In the early 1970s, WCSC-TV moved to a new studio facility on Ramsgate Road in West Ashley, where it remains today. In the 1980s, the station expanded its news programming with the addition of "NewsChannel 5 at Noon" and "NewsChannel 5 at 6." In 1996, WCSC-TV made headlines when it swapped affiliations with WUSN-TV, becoming the CBS affiliate for the Charleston market. The station has remained a CBS affiliate since that time, and has continued to expand its news programming with the addition of "NewsChannel 5 at 5," "NewsChannel 5 at 7," and "NewsChannel 5 at 11."
