KFOR-TV (channel 4) is an NBC-affiliated television station in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Nexstar Media Group owns it, along with independent station KAUT-TV (channel 43). Both stations share studios in Oklahoma City's McCourry Heights neighborhood, which also houses KFOR-transmitter. TV'sKFOR-TV, Oklahoma's first television station, debuted in June 1949 as WKY-TV, the television extension of WKY (930 AM). WKY-TV was the first independently-owned network affiliate to directly originate color programs, the first station to operate a mobile broadcasting unit for live event coverage, the first station to broadcast legislative sessions and cover court proceedings, and the first television station to broadcast a tornado warning in its early years. The station was originally owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company, a direct forerunner of Gaylord Broadcasting, and was renamed KTVY in 1976 before becoming KFOR-TV in 1990.
