On October 11, 1959, KXGO-TV (the GO for Fargo) went on the air as an ABC affiliate. North Dakota Broadcasting was the initial owner. The call letters were changed to KEND-TV in 1963. Channel 11 relocated to its current location in Blanchard on August 13, 1963. The call letters were changed to KTHI-TV in 1964. (for Tower-HI). In 1968, Fuqua sold the station to Morgan Murphy Media (the owner of KXLY-TV in Spokane, Washington). On August 22, 1983, KTHI became an NBC affiliate, replacing long-time NBC station WDAY-TV (channel 6). The station's current call letters, which were chosen on May 2, 1995, signify the station's motto, "The Valley's Choice for Local News." as it serves the settlements located along the Red River of the North and its tributaries.
