WLOX was the Mississippi Gulf Coast's first television station, broadcasting on September 15, 1962. The Love family and their WLOX Broadcasting Company, as well as WLOX radio, owned it (AM 1490, now WANG). The station quickly allied with ABC, which was uncommon at the time for what was, and still is, a relatively tiny market. Until the 1970s, ABC was nothing near CBS and NBC in terms of size and ratings.
