On August 1, 1963, WQAD-TV became operational for the first time. The Moline Television Corporation, a collection of 24 local investors, owned it. They were granted the license in 1961, but due to interference problems with WIRL-TV in Peoria (now Comet TV owned and operated station WHOI), sign-on was delayed for two years. [5] Prior to the addition of WQAD, ABC programming was split between NBC station WOC-TV (channel 6, now KWQC-TV) and CBS affiliate WHBF-TV (channel 4). Viewers with a decent antenna may see the whole ABC programming on Cedar Rapids' KCRG-TV.
