KOVR-TV is a CBS affiliate located in Sacramento, California. The station originally signed on the air on September 6, 1954 as a CBS affiliate, but in 1995 it swapped networks with KXTV, another station in Sacramento, and became an ABC affiliate. KOVR is the third station in Sacramento to have been affiliated with CBS. Despite joining CBS, KOVR chose not to air the soap opera "Guiding Light" due to its low ratings in the area. When the program ended its run in 2009, it was one of only two CBS affiliates that did not carry the show. Sacramento viewers had to view "Guiding Light" on cable via KPIX, a future sister station of KOVR.
