About KYMA NBC11
KYMA is a television station located in Yuma, Arizona that began broadcasting in January 1988. At that time, it became an ABC affiliate, replacing a translator of KGTV in San Diego. The station was granted its initial license on April 29, 1988, and originally operated from studio facilities on South Pacific Avenue in Yuma. In June 1989, KYMA was sold by Yuma Broadcasting to Sunbelt Communications Company. On February 1, 1991, KYMA became an NBC affiliate as part of a swap with then-KYEL, which would later become KSWT in September of that year. This means that KYMA began airing NBC programming at that time, while KYEL/KSWT switched to ABC. It is not clear how this swap affected the programming and content that KYMA and KYEL/KSWT were able to offer to viewers in the Yuma area.
